Apprentice wages are a percentage of journey level wages based on the Group III wage. As of 6/1/24, there are currently eight different contracts Apprentices can work under - each having different wages and benefits. The minimum starting wage per hour from the contracts is $36.49 and the maximum starting wage is $38.66. Every 1000 hours an Apprentice works, they receive a raise in pay.
The wages and benefits are a negotiated item and they change yearly to some extent. The union negotiates these wage rates and benefit packages on your behalf with the contractors signatory with the International Unions of Operating Engineers Local 302 and 612.
Benefits:
Current benefit rates are $15.70 per hour into a pension account for your retirement and $10.02 per hour is contributed into your health and welfare fund providing medical, dental and vision coverage for you and your family. There is an excellent return on the Pension account with a real ability to provide for your future in a very positive way financially.
